Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
On April 23, 2013, Share Medical Center (SMC) Foundation held the medical center’s annual volunteer appreciation dinneron the campus of Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Attendees included volunteers (and their guests) from the nursing home, hospital, hospice, physicians’ clinics, and The Homestead; board members for both the Alva Hospital Authority and the Share Medical Center Foundation; and appreciative employees of the medical center.
In 2012, SMC tasked Janet Valencia with coordinating and reinvigorating its volunteer program. At that time, the Foundation began tracking volunteer hours for the first time in its donor database. In total, SMC welcomed the addition of thirteen new individual volunteers in 2012 for a total of nineteen altogether. Those nineteen logged 820 hours of services, which the medical center values at over $14,000.
Since the first of the year, approximately fifteen more volunteers have signed up. This brings the total volunteer count to 34 individuals who have completed nearly 750 hours of service through the end of March.
In addition to the individual volunteers, volunteer groups were also recognized at the dinner. These groups include church groups and other organizations that spend time both on campus and off, entertaining, sewing, and performing other acts for our medical center.
And last but not least are the dedicated board members who oversee the management of medical center and foundation programs and activities.
