Hospital attests Stage One use of Electronic Health Record
After years of researching, planning, and ultimately implementing a federally mandated electronic health record, Share Medical Center has completed stage one attestation requirements. Additional stages will follow, but this accomplishment underscores Share Medical Center's commitment to continue providing hospital care in an ever-changing healthcare environment.
Stage one cost the hospital over $2 million for equipment, programs, training and implementation. The federal government has set aside approximately $1.3 million for the hospital upon successful attestation of stage one criteria. Much of the upfront costs were funded by private donations, but the medical center did finance approximately $1 million.
SMC CEO, Kandice Allen told board members, "This is by no means finished, but... this is a huge milestone and it has taken a lot of effort and working together... We look forward to getting paid for it."
Stage two is not expected to cost as much as stage one, but there will be just as many implementation challenges moving forward.
Administration and staff appreciate everyone's patience and support during this stage of the project and ask for continued patience and support as future stages of electronic health record implementation are undertaken.
